Modern Warfare 3 overload: info plus nearly all the vids

Modern Warfare 3 will contain the usual fast-paced, gun-on-gun combat, along with new features that support and enhance different styles of play.

Strike Package and Weapon Proficiency Systems, along with Elite’s new social and competitive features, the teams behind the game hope it will allow folks to play a bit better together.

With Elite, gamers will be able to access the console app to check stats, connect with other friends and engage in competition, all via their console. Modern Warfare 3 players also have the ability to identify Facebook friends and fellow Elite members in-game, as well as the ability to sync custom load outs to game, engage in daily live competition to win real-world prizes, rewards and more.

Re-imagined multiplayer

The game contains all new Strike Packages, and Killstreaks have been redesigned to reward different play styles and skill levels. Completing game mode objectives now counts towards your Pointstreak progression, and this time around, kills are not the only way to earn Pointstreaks – these Pointstreaks will also cater to more unique play-styles such as the following:

* Assault Strike Package – Pointstreaks within this package chain and are designed for more direct damage (Predator, helicopter, etc), just like in Modern Warfare 2. Your streak resets on death.

* Support Strike Package – Pointstreaks within this package do not chain. However, streaks do not reset on death. Streaks are more support oriented (UAV, Counter UAV, SAM turret, etc)

* Specialist Strike Package – Pointstreaks designed for the expert players. Rewards come in the form of additional perks. A player activates additional Perks as they progress in a Pointsreak. These perks last until death.

Strike Packages include but are not limited to:

Assault

* Streak count resets on death.
* 5 kills: I.M.S.
* 9 kills: Strafe Run
* 9 kills: AH-6 Overwatch
* 10 kills: Assault Drone
* 15 kills: Juggernaut

Support

* Streak count does not reset on death.
* 5 kills: Ballistic Vest
* 5 kills: Airdrop Trap
* 10 kills: Recon Drone
* 14 kills: Stealth Bomber
* 18 kills: Juggernaut Recon

Specialist

* Unlock one additional Perk at 2
* kills, a second additional perk at
* 4 kills and your next at 6 kills.

These perks operate in addition to the standard 3 assigned to the custom load out chosen at the beginning of a match.

Death Streaks make their return in Modern Warfare 3 and include but not limited to:

* 4– Juiced (run faster)
* 5 – Revenge (last person to kill you is visible on radar)
* 5 – Hollow Points (increased bullet damage for 1 kill)
* 6 – Dead Man’s Hand (player falls into last stand with C4)

New weapon ranking system

MW3 evolves your gun progression and features more than 40 weapons that are either in-use or being field-tested by special forces. Such armaments include: Primary – Assault: SMG, LMG, Sniper Rifles, Shotguns and Riot Shield; Secondary – Machine Pistols, Handguns and Launchers.

The new weapon progression is designed to improve specific weapon leveling unlocks (attachments, reticules, and camos) and Weapon Proficiencies allow players to specialize their weapons with new attributes – some even unique to weapon classes.

Some Proficiencies include:

* Kick – Reduced recoil when firing
* Attachments – Two attachments on Primary
* weapon
* Focus – Reduced flinch when hit
* Stability – Reduced sway when ADS

Some Attachments include:

* Red Dot Sight
* Silencer
* Holographic sight
* Dual Scope (Close Range/Long Range Optics)

New perks and game modes

Much is being made about the new perks in the game, and below you will find, yet another, list for those as well.

* Recon – Explosive damage paints the target on the mini map
* Blind Eye – Undetectable by air support/sentries
* Assassin – Undetectable by UAV, portable radar, thermal, heartbeat
* Quickdraw – Faster aim down sight
* Stalker – Move faster while aiming
* Marksman – Identify targets at longer range

While there are new game modes in MW3, fan-favorites such as Free-for-All, Team Deatmatch, Match Domination and more have returned as well. So no fretting there.

The series of new modes making their introduction to the Modern Warfare series are:

* Kill Confirmed – Collect dog tags from killed players. Prevent the other team from collecting yours

* Team Defender – Grab the flag and protect the flag carrier to increase your team’s score

* Private match modes include:
* Infection – The infected kills enemies to recruit them for the infected team.
* Drop Zone – Hold the Drop Zone for Team Points and Care Packages.
* Team Juggernaut – With the support of a juggernaut, kill players on the opposing team. The firstteam to reach the score limit wins.
* Juggernaut – Kill the Juggernaut to become the new Juggernaut
Gun Game – Be the first to dominate with every gun
One in the Chamber – Gain ammo by eliminating enemies. Be the last to survive.

Call of Duty Elite everthing you need to know

Call of Duty Elite

Will I have to subscribe to Elite in order to play Call of Duty online?

No. "It's worth repeating," said Berger during the reveal event, "Call of Duty does not and will not charge for multiplayer – that is our continued commitment to our players." Berger also reiterated the fact that some elements of Elite will be free to Modern Warfare 3 buyers, including the career stats and groups elements.

How can Activision justify charging for a social networking service?

Well, Elite will have already cost millions of dollars to set up. Activision has formed a new development studio, Beachhead, to create the system. Berger also stated that the publisher is employing "a standalone service team to provide worldwide 24/7 customer service for Elite members". That all costs money.

If map packs are included in the Elite subscription, does that mean I'll have to subscribe in order to get DLC from now on?

No, you'll be able to buy Modern Warfare 3 map packs without subscribing.

Will the service begin with MW3?

Yes, but it's also backwards compatible, to some extent, with Black Ops and Modern Warfare 2. These titles will feature a more limited version of Elite.

Is Elite multi-platform?

Yes, the service will work with PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 versions of the Call of Duty titles.

Will I be able to access my Elite account from different devices?

Yes, according to Berger: "The Beachhead team has adopted a philosophy that we call 'the four screens'. The idea is, when we launch Elite, it will be customised for mobile applications, on the television itself and within the game interface." An iPhone app is apparently launching later in the year.

If this is a success, will other publishers follow suit?

If there's the possibility of a new revenue stream, other publishers are bound to develop similar models. Electronic Arts, for example, is already experimenting with monitised multiplayer gaming, via its Online Pass system, which charges a one-off fee to buyers of pre-owned games who want to play online. The thing is, Call of Duty is one of the biggest entertainment brands in the world, and it has a vast, loyal user-base. As Activision pointed out during its London preview event, all four of the Call of Duty titles released between 2007 and 2010 are in the top ten most played Xbox Live titles. It's doubtful whether there are many other franchises that have the brand loyalty and mass appeal to support a similar proposition. But this time next year, if Activision is raking in millions of extra dollars from its Elite community, don't rule out a surge of similar announcements…

fuck that.

Modern Warfare 3's Survival Mode exposed, detailed

Modern Warfare 3's rumoured Survival Mode has been confirmed and detailed, via a report in USA Today.

The mode, which comes as part of the new game's updated Spec-Ops suite, has players competing against increasingly difficult waves of enemies (in the Horde/Firefight fashion) across Modern Warfare 3's multiplayer maps.

USA Today teamed up with Infinity Ward's Robert Bowling on a map called Dome, described as a "derelict Cold War-era desert radar command bunker".

"As we dispatched ever-increasing waves of enemies, I discarded my pistol for a shotgun. Rubin passed me some in-game currency and I bought and installed a turret to keep the evildoers at bay, while I watched for attack dogs," it explains.

"After a few waves, the attack dogs became suicide bomber dogs that exploded a few seconds after you shot them. The next wave brought the kamikaze soldiers who exploded similarly."

Modern Warfare 2's near-invincible juggernauts also return for the Spec-Ops mode, the publication says, and this time there will be several different types of them.

"All that stuff really fleshes out Spec Ops and adds in a lot that we know our fans are going to love, some of the most addictive aspects of Multiplayer," Bowling said.

"You definitely have to change up your strategy as the enemy changes up. Obviously how you fight the kamikaze dudes is different from how you fight the normal dudes and how you fight a dog is different from a dude and how you fight juggernauts, they are not only big and armoured, so they will just brute force come at you. But they each have their own way of being taken out effectively."

In Modern Warfare 3, Spec Ops gains its own progressive ranking system, online matchmaking system and leaderboards.

No Pay To Play In Modern Warfare 3

Modern Warfare 3 Multiplayer
Speculation has been running wild that Activision’s new Call of Duty Game: Modern Warfare 3, will feature a subscription service for online play.  Infinity Ward has repeatedly said that Modern Warfare 3 as well is all of its future games will never feature any sort of pay for play multiplayer feature.  Creative Strategist and lead authority figure on all things MW3, Robert Bowling, set the record straight on twitter today by adamantly repeating that they will never have pay for play multiplayer.  Even though setting up a World of Warcraft like system could be immensely profitable, it seems that the folks involved with Modern Warfare 3 are doing the noble thing and not milking money out of their customers.  Make sure to like this post on Facebook to show your support for the creators of MW3 doing the right thing.

Modern Warfare 3 prompts hand-wringing

Activision's next best seller, Modern Warfare 3, has barely been announced, yet already the hype machine is in full throttle. A series of short MW3 teasers released this week, gave fans their first look at what to expect from the game - and immediately caused outrage.
The Daily Mail - natch - has been at its usual scaremongering best, claiming yesterday that scenes witnessed in trailers were too similar to London's 7 July 2005 tube and bus bombings.
The paper says that "supporters" of those affected by the terrorist attack were calling for the game to be banned. What's next? Driving games prohibited from racing through Parisian tunnels, over fears of upsetting admirers of anti-landmine pinup girls? Don't be silly.
Modern Warfare 3
I attended Activision's pre-E3 press event this week and caught an extended glimpse of this "controversial" game in action. The live run through of a couple single-player missions was jaw-dropping. I watched a helicopter plunge into the side of a building, rampant Russians get gunned down in New York,and a London underground train crash beside our charging jeep. It may run on the same platform as Black Ops', but Infinity Ward and co-developer Sledgehammer have pulled out all the cinematic stops here.
No multiplayer viewings were available, although we were promised a return to Special Ops and assured the experience would be beastly.
Modern Warfare 3
While Microsoft snapped up partial exclusivity in CoD's previous outing, with Black Ops' DLC content hitting Xbox 360 long before PS3, Infinity Ward has assured us this won't be the case with MW3. Robert Bowling, Creative Strategist at Infinity Ward, insists through his Twitter feed that there is no lead platform in the game's development and that a PC version will have unique optimisations.
Battlefield 3, better get that kevlar vest on - Modern Warfare is back with a bang. In an interview with NowGamer, analysts reckon MW3 will sell three times more than EA's anticipated shooter. It is certainly producing three times more hype at the moment. Lock and load
