Battlefield 3 is a tasteful war game

Battlefield 3 executive producer Patrick Bach has said that: "We're not trying to base it on any political or religious conflict - controversy is probably a good marketing tool, but we make games," Bach said. "Our goal isn't to make controversy. I don't want people to feel bad playing our game. Our goal is to create a fun, entertaining experience. So we are trying to stay away from things that are real - authentic and real don't have to be the same thing."

Speaking further about the studio's depiction of war, Bach added: "When we say Russians versus Americans, it's like Red versus Blue. We try not to depict the reasons for the war, because then it can end up in a very bad place. We depict it from the perspective of an individual rather than an army - it's about you as a soldier on the battlefield, because no matter who you are or on what side you are, it's still drama."

He concluded: "I don't want to create a war simulation or a game which picks sides. I think that would be tasteless.

Battlefield 3 will be released October 28 for Xbox 360, PS3 and PC.

Hi-Rez Boasts Of F2P Successes

Hi-Rez COO Todd Harris said of the decision to take Global Agenda free-to-play: “We have many many more people creating accounts every day, many more people playing concurrently, our revenues are higher than they ever have been before which means we can develop content and put it into the game faster than ever before,” and also: “We now have five times as many interested players every day going through that same experience knowing that it’s free to play and it’s not a demo.”

Wii U Zelda 'not necessarily' the same as tech ,

The Legend of Zelda series producer Eiji Aonuma has warned that the Wii U Zelda tech demo, shown at this year's E3, is not necessarily what to expect from the inevitable Wii U title.

"You probably remember that when we introduced the GameCube, we showed a somewhat realistic Zelda demo," Aonuma said.

"And what we actually created was the cel-shaded Wind Waker. So when we show a graphic demo, people think, 'Oh, this is what the next Zelda will look like,' but that's not necessarily the case."

Wind Waker turned out to be both critically and commercially successful, but when the first images of the game were revealed, fans were decidedly worried. Aonuma is making sure that this mistake isn't made again.

With the Zelda team currently hard at work on Skyward Sword, which is due to be released later this year, another team were responsible for putting together the tech demo.

"We talked to each other a lot about several elements, one of which was, 'How exactly will the HD graphics work?' In doing concepts for that … we used Zelda assets quite often to examine, OK, how real will we make this look?"

Despite the short amount of time it took to develop, Nintendo has said that the Zelda Wii U demo is not possible on other consoles, and is reason to believe Nintendo will have no issues creating top end high definition games for its new console.

'Huge challenges ahead' for Wii U, says Nintendo

Nintendo faces a massive task in educating consumers about what exactly its upcoming Wii successor, the Wii U, is capable of, Katsuya Eguchi, game designer and manager at Nintendo Entertainment Analysis and Development has told Edge magazine.

Asked if Nintendo faces similar challenges posed by the 3DS, in communicating the Wii U's unique qualities, Eguchi said: "You're absolutely right, those are just some of the huge challenges ahead of us - getting people to really understand what Wii U can offer.

"We have some experiences here right now - with 'Chase Mii' and 'Shield Pose' - and we have a great opportunity to give people time to play the games, so we'll take advantage of expos, conferences and in-store demos, but we really want people to understand how the TV screen and controller screen interact and how that changes the experience.

And we've come up with a variety of uses. But you're right, we can't explain them all, and I don't even think we've thought of them all. I'm sure there are many uses that haven't been thought of yet."

Wii U is scheduled for release in 2012.
